According to Broadband Breakfast, June 10, 2021, AT&T wants government handouts for broadband in territories it failed to upgrade.

According to this footnote, AT&T is only offering wired home Internet broadband service in their 21 state telecommunications public utilities — the AT&T ‘footprint’.

AT&T charges $10 a month, $120 a year, for an internet broadband modem that appears to cost AT&T $20-$30 at wholesale rates. That’s a lot of extra profits to take from the Emergency Broadband Benefit, EBB, government subsidy for low income families, don’t you think?
And regardless of the EBB program, if you have used an internet broadband service from AT&T over the last 4 years, this comes to $480. We need to add that AT&T also gets to write off this piece of equipment, an additional benefit to… AT&T. …

We divided this story up into 4 parts — This is Part 1.
The Washington Post headline says it all:
“The government has a program to cut your Internet bill. Verizon is using it to force you onto a new data plan.”
The EBB, Emergency Broadband Benefit, is a government subsidy program giving out $3.2 billion to broadband providers to cover discounts of up to $50 a month for qualified low income ‘households’.
The FCC says this program is for households to get online:
“The Emergency Broadband Benefit is an FCC program to help families and households struggling to afford…
